Safe Chemical Storage

Version 1 - Last updated 23 Jul 2025

The hazards identified and documented in the Chemical Inventory List (CIL) should be used to plan precautionary measures for storage of these chemicals.

Some chemicals may need specific storage conditions, which should be implemented accordingly.

There are four requirements for safe chemical storage:

1
Store design
Design a safe chemical store
2
Chemical labelling
Ensure labelling on chemical containers and implement actions on chemical labelling
3
Chemical safety cards
Prepare and display chemical safety cards at storage points in the chemical stores
4
Commodity chemicals
Ensure compatibility precautions for storage of commodity chemicals
