ETP Assessment
In textile and leather processes, large quantities of water and chemicals are used. The water is treated and discharged as wastewater/effluent to the environment at the end of the process. If the wastewater does not meet quality standards it can have an impact on the environment including loss of biodiversity, aquatic life and human health.
Textile and leather facilities, therefore, should install an effluent treatment plant (ETP), reducing harmful pollutants in the wastewater to acceptable limits before it is discharged to the environment. The purpose of an ETP is to ensure that the wastewater produced by industrial activities is treated efficiently and effectively so that it does not harm the environment or pose a risk to public health when discharged to the environment.
ETP assessment is applicable to direct discharge facilities who test wastewater and sludge as per the ZDHC Wastewater and Sludge Guidelines. (The threshold flow rate of 15m3/day is not relevant to the ETP assessment.)
