While all chemicals delivered or used in a facility are in the scope of the ZDHC MRSL, there are challenges to demonstrate the conformance of certain types of chemicals (such as utility or commodity chemicals) using the ZDHC Gateway - Chemical Module database, since a business model for engaging these chemical formulators on the ZDHC Gateway needs to be developed.
Therefore, the Performance InCheck focuses on chemical products directly used in production and wastewater treatment processes.
In Scope
| Type of chemical product | Examples |
|---|---|
| All dyes, pigments and inks |
Reactive dyes, disperse dyes, pigment emulsions, water-based and solvent-based printing inks, etc |
| Finishing agents | Softeners, antimicrobials, flame retardants, oil and water repellents (OWR), wrinkle-free resins, etc |
| Printing thickeners and binders | Synthetic thickeners, modified natural thickeners, emulsion thickeners, etc. |
| Chemicals used in the wastewater/effluent treatment process (except commodity chemicals) | Coagulants, flocculants, antiscalants, defoamers, etc. |
| Sizing chemicals used for in-house warping or weaving | Starch, lubricating agents, wetting agents, softening agents, etc. |
| Weaving or knitting oils | Lubricity enhancers, antistatic agents, silicone oils, etc. |
| Beamhouse, wet-end and finishing auxiliaries for leather production | Wetting agents, fatliquors, tanning agents, bating enzymes, etc. |
| Dyestuff and pigments used in wet-end and finishing for leather production | Acid dyes, basic dyes, direct dyes, inorganic and organic pigments, etc. |
| Printing inks and auxiliaries used for printed leather production | Water-based and solvent-based printing inks, binders, thickeners, etc. |
| Adhesives and rubber chemicals used in footwear and leather goods production | PU adhesive, hot melt adhesive, blowing agents, coupling agents, etc. |
Out of Scope
Commodity chemicals (used in production or wastewater treatment processes) are also excluded from the scope of the Performance InCheck Report. The list of ZDHC commodity chemicals is given here.
ZDHC is working on a business model to enlist commodity chemicals manufacturers/products in the ZDHC Gateway Chemical Module. Commodity chemicals will be included in the scope of the Performance InCheck Report once this model is developed.
Chemicals not directly applied or used in operations: such as those used for utility operations (boilers/generators), general facility/equipment maintenance (lubrication of facility equipment or tools, pest control or floor cleaning chemicals) and laboratory chemicals, are not in the scope of the Performance InCheck Report.
| Type of chemical product | Examples |
|---|---|
| Commodity chemicals | Sodium hydroxide, acetic acid, sodium sulphate, etc. |
| Solvents | Acetone, ethyl acetate, glycerol, etc. |
| Chemicals used in engraving, developing, and washing of printing screens | Hardening agents, detergents and surfactants, photoresist emulsions, etc. |
| Paints and chemicals used for building repairs | Acrylic paint, latex paint, rust removers, crack fillers, etc. |
| Chemicals used in laboratory tests | Type of chemical products mentioned in the 'included and excluded list’ |
| Utility chemicals used for machinery maintenance | Lubricants, grease, descaling agents, coolants, etc. |
| Pest control chemicals | Insecticides, fumigants, etc. |
| Floor cleaning/sanitation detergents | Degreasers, disinfectant detergents, deodorising detergents, etc. |
| Spot cleaning chemicals | Solvents used to remove fabric spots, oxidising agents, etc. |
| Chemical samples for trials | Dyes, pigments, pre-treatment chemicals, sdhesives, Inks, etc. |
