
Ensure safe storage, handling and transportation of waste

Care must be taken for the on-site storage of chemical related waste, as it can pose a high risk to human health and the surrounding environment.
Requirements for safe waste storage
- Apply all general chemical storage precautions, given under ‘Safer Storage conditions’ to chemical-related waste.
- Store waste in a designated waste yard.
- Ensure the waste yard has:
- Safety signages
- Labels on the waste containers (where applicable)
- Spill control kits
- Appropriate PPE for workers

Requirements for handling waste
- Provide relevant PPE for workers exposed to high-risk chemical-related waste.
- PPE should protect against immediate injuries (e.g. chemical splashes) and long-term harm.
Transportation of waste
- Waste must be handled correctly during internal transportation throughout the facility.
- External waste transportation by outside contractors must be handled properly.
- Ensure proper precautions to prevent environmental pollution during transit.
