Chemical Traceability

Requirements wording updated to align with StZ V2. The inventory management requirement was broadened from FIFO to FEFO and/or FIFO, depending on whether the facility manages chemicals by expiration date or purchase date. Additional guidance, examples, and FEFO-specific clarification have been added. As part of this update, the earlier requirement to record lot/batch numbers of all chemicals purchased by the facility has been removed.

Previous requirements:

2. Implement a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) system

3. Implement a system of traceability

Updated requirements:

1. The facility implements an internal traceability system that tracks chemicals used in production

2. The facility implements a FEFO (First Expired, First Out) and/or FIFO (First In, First Out) system to manage chemical use by expiration date or purchase date

The earlier requirement “Record lot/batch numbers of all chemicals purchased by the facility” is removed. 

This requirement is removed as a requirement and added as guidance under the requirement “The facility implements an internal traceability system that tracks chemicals used in production”

The FIFO requirement was broadened to FEFO and/or FIFO, depending on whether the expiration or purchase date is managed. 

Additional clarity and examples were added. FEFO guidance was introduced. This addition establishes clear requirements for implementing FEFO (First-Expired-First-Out) and FIFO (First-In-First-Out) inventory management, including the recording of expiry dates, purchase dates, and lot/batch numbers. It strengthens chemical inventory control, improves traceability, minimises the risk of using expired chemicals, and supports consistent stock management through practical implementation guidance and examples.
