Record all chemicals purchased in the ZDHC CIL and keep it updated

Version 1 - Last updated 23rd July 2025

The chemicals that are purchased by a facility must be recorded in the CIL and this must be updated on a regular basis for additions or deletions in the chemical inventory.

Chemical Inventory List (CIL)

The Chemical Inventory List (CIL) should be managed and updated by the designated Chemical Responsible Person or Team within the facility. This responsibility includes:

  1. Inputting all relevant technical data into the relevant CIL columns.
  2. Co-ordinating with the purchase department to obtain information on newly purchased chemicals.
  3. Updating the list regularly to reflect any new chemical purchases.
  4. Conducting a regular assessment of the physical stock recorded in the CIL.

This process ensures that the CIL remains a comprehensive and up-to-date record of all chemicals present in the facility, supporting effective chemical management and safety protocols.

The ZDHC CIL template should be completed with information in three columns: foundational, progressive and aspirational.
