Air Emissions Guidelines

The existing requirements have been renamed to align with StZ V2, the PTE-VOC calculation methodology has been expanded with a complete calculation formula, the Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions guidance has been updated to clarify the required activity data (including fugitive emissions), and the previously marked "coming soon" requirement for setting Paris Agreement-aligned GHG reduction targets has now been published.

The previously marked "coming soon" requirement has been published. New guidance has been introduced for setting Paris Agreement-aligned GHG reduction targets, including baseline year selection, target year requirements, annual emissions reduction tracking, and implementation guidance for suppliers with and without existing SBTi-validated targets.


The requirement wording has been updated

Previous requirements:

  1. Calculate the Potential to Emit (PTE) of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  2. Calculate and report annual Scope 1 & Scope 2 GHG emissions

Updated requirements:

  1. Potential to Emit (PTE) - Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions are measured and reduced over time
  2. Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are measured and reduced over time
  3. Set Paris Agreement aligned targets to reduce GHG emissions against the baseline year

Expanded PTE-VOC calculation formula

The PTE-VOC calculation has been updated from a simplified calculation description to a complete mathematical formula. The updated section includes the full equation, definitions for all variables used in the calculation, and specifies the output unit as kg VOC/year.


Expanded Scope 1 & 2 GHG activity data

The guidance has been updated to clarify and expand the activity data required to calculate Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions. The updated guidance now explicitly includes purchased and on-site-generated electricity, heating, cooling and steam, facility-owned or controlled vehicle fuel consumption, and fugitive emissions from refrigeration, air-conditioning, and fire-suppression equipment.
