Calculate and report annual Scope 1 & Scope 2 GHG emissions
Version 1 - Last updated 23rd July 2025
Apparel, textile, leather and footwear processing is highly greenhouse gas intensive due to energy requirements in dyeing, tanning and finishing. Therefore, greenhouse gas emissions are a key impact area under the Output focus area.
Industry alignment
ZDHC does not want to duplicate existing industry and regulatory initiatives on GHG reporting, but to align with these.
- Suppliers who are engaged in and reporting their GHG emissions in terms of kg CO2 eq. (Scope 1 and Scope 2) on existing initiatives/platforms, can simply report this data on the ZDHC platform for their latest reporting period.
- Suppliers who are not engaged with existing industry platforms can use the ZDHC platform to input their activity data and calculate their GHG emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2. This data relates to their fuel types and consumption, generation of electrical and heat energy, and vehicle emissions.
ZDHC intends to initiate work on GHG to address climate change issues by linking textile/leather chemistry and processes with resource efficiency and energy consumption, using more sustainable chemistry as a tool to decarbonise the sector.
Implementation
Suppliers should:
- Report Scope 1 & Scope 2 GHG emissions on the ZDHC Supplier Platform Air Emissions Platform.
- Review the data.
- Set or revise GHG reduction goals.
- Repeat the process at least annually.
