All output streams are identified, measured, and records are kept

Version 1 - Last updated 30 Jul 2026

Facilities should identify and document all applicable output streams and release, discharge, transfer and disposal points within the facility boundary, including wastewater, sludge, air emissions and solid waste. This should include outputs that are treated or disposed of on-site, discharged directly to the environment, or transferred to an external treatment, recycling or disposal service provider. An up-to-date site map should show where each output stream is generated and where it is discharged, treated, stored, collected, transferred or disposed of. The map should clearly identify relevant treatment systems, monitoring or sampling points, storage areas and final discharge or transfer locations.

The facility should maintain an up-to-date inventory recording, at a minimum, the output stream type, source or generating process, discharge or transfer location, treatment or disposal method, responsible external service provider, where applicable and relevant quantities, including wastewater volume and sludge weight. Quantities should be recorded using consistent units of measurement. Records should be updated at least monthly using reliable measurements, such as flow meters, weighing records, manifests, invoices, laboratory records, production data, estimates or other verifiable operational records. Where estimates are used, the calculation method and assumptions should be documented. The inventory and site map should also be reviewed and updated whenever there is a change in production processes, output streams, treatment systems or discharge points.
